The 103 series is a DC commuter train that appeared in 1963 (Showa 38) during the JNR era.
The Sobu Line began commercial operation in 1979, running directly from Chiba Station to Ochanomizu Station to Mitaka Station on the Chuo Line, and served as the mainstay of commuter transportation connecting the east and west of the Tokyo metropolitan area, but commercial operation ended in March 2001.
